First Look At Pierce Brosnan, Imogen Poots & Aaron Paul In 'A Long Way Down,' Rosamund Pike & Sam Neill Join Cast

Where is Rosamund Pike finding the time? Fresh off of “Jack Reacher,” the actress is busy filming a significant role in Edgar Wright’s final instalment in the jokingly monikered ‘Blood and Ice Cream’ trilogy, “The World’s End.” Once she’s wrapped on that she’ll be reuniting with Simon Pegg on the set of “Hector and the Search for Happiness,” and she’s also attached to Stephen Brown’s “The Sea.” But not content with that busy schedule (and likely happy to capitalise on a sudden resurgence in popularity), Pike has added another project in the form of Pascal Chaumeil’s English-language debut “A Long Way Down.”

Pike will join the film alongside Sam Neill, and they’ll both be joining a cast which already boasts Pierce Brosnan, Toni Collette, Aaron Paul and Imogen Poots. The film is based on a book by Nick Hornby (“High Fidelity,” “An Education”) and has a dark and intriguing concept, which sees four strangers meeting on top of a London skyscraper on New Year’s Eve. They had all intended to commit suicide by jumping from the building but resolve to stay alive and help each other instead. And the first look at the central quartet has arrived, courtesy of Cinema Teaser.

The four main roles have already been filled by the aforementioned actors, so Neill and Pike will inevitably be joining the film in smaller, supporting roles. Based on the little we know of the novel we’d take a guess that Neill may be playing Imogen Poot’s father, while we’d probably assume that Pike will be playing a reporter called Linda. Rising British screenwriter Jack Thorne (“This Is England ’88,” “Skins”) has written the screenplay, and we’re looking forward to how he’s realised the novel for the big screen. There’s no release plans for the film yet, but the fall festival circuit in 2013 seems like a sensible bet. [Variety]
