Garfield & Webb Back for 'Spider-Man' Sequel, Set for May 2014

Andrew Garfield and director Marc Webb will return for Columbia Pictures’ next installment of “The Amazing Spider-Man,” while Emma Stone is currently in talks. The script for the sequel is by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (“Transformers,” “Star Trek”) and Jeff Pinkler, based on James Vanderbilt’s earlier draft. The film is set for a May 2, 2014 release in 3-D.

Columbia Pictures’ president Doug Belgrad states:

“We could not be more confident in the direction we are taking this new Spider-Man storyline and we are tremendously excited to be ramping up production again with Marc at the helm and Andrew continuing on as  Peter Parker. We can’t wait to share what we have in store for Peter and Spider-Man with audiences worldwide.”

Production will kick off early next year. The first film in this latest “Spider-Man” series grossed $751 million worldwide. The first installment of Sam Raimi’s trio of “Spider-man” films raked in $821 million worldwide.
