New Pics From 'The Man With The Iron Fists,' Eli Roth Says Film Will "Care About Character"

While the rest of Hollywood spends the next few months jockeying their awards season horses, Universal doesn’t have have to worry about that with “The Man With The Iron Fists.” It’s a kung fu flick, so done and done right? Well, as folks who have been following the RZA directed movie know by now, it’s tossing in a few more factors that will make it a bit more than your average chop-socky actioner.

“We wanted to make a movie that showed our love for those old kung-fu movies, but we also wanted to make it modern, with hip-hop,” co-writer and producer Eli Roth told the LA Times. “So, you know, a guy has magic blades, that kind of thing.” But moreover, the movie brings with it the stamp of Quentin Tarantino, who is presenting the movie, and Roth insists it wasn’t just a case of the director doing a solid for some friends of his.

“if the writing hadn’t been up to a certain level.”

“…if the writing hadn’t been up to a certain level,” Roth says Tarantino would not have put his imprint on the film. But that he has, it’s a bit of vindication for the “Hostel” director who was looking to do something a bit different from the many movies that inspired ‘Iron Fists.’ “Kung-fu movies don’t care about character,” he said. “It drives me crazy. Why don’t they add more of those layers?”
While we’ll have to see what nuance and complexity have been brought to the movie starring RZA, Russell Crowe, Lucy Liu, Pam Grier and more, these new pics suggest we won’t have to worry too hard that this will tax our brains. “The Man With The Iron Fists” opens on November 2nd.
