Capper, a long-time fan of Snoop’s work, sought muse in Dr. Dre and Fab Five Freddy’s “Murder Was the Case,” a 1994 short film that starred Snoop Dogg, among other documentaries — such as Leon Gast’s 1996 documentary, “When We Were Kings,” and Jonas Mekas and Andrew Solt’s Lennon-inspired “Gimme Some Truth”. “Reincarnated” is meant to chart the artist’s journey from dark to light: Snoop’s evolution from a ‘Dogg’ to a ‘Lion,’ and the creation of a new record.
What the movie is really about: “Snoop’s life story set against a real, personal transformation and an examination of American/Jamaican history and culture.”
On what influenced his segue into the film industry: “DIY punk/skate culture/music/60s and 70s Hollywood, Spike, Vice, all inspired me greatly.”
Despite what you may have heard, truckers are not your friends: “[The single biggest challenge we faced in developing the film was] driving through Jamaican jungles at 4 a.m. while a trucker tried to run us off of a mountain.”
Anything else in the works? “Two big artists I can’t reveal right now — and “Swansea Love Story, Part 2″.”
