TIFF Hot Tickets: 'Cloud Atlas' & 'Silver Linings Playbook' Premieres

Saturday night screenings of The Wachowskis’ and Tom Tykwer’s “Cloud Atlas” (WB) and David O. Russell’s “Silver Linings Playbook” (TWC) are two of Toronto’s highest-profile debuts. “Cloud Atlas”‘s six-plus minute trailer wowed some and suggested disaster to others, while “The Fighter” director Russell’s comedy skipped Telluride to finish last-minute changes just in time for the Canadian fest. Bradley Cooper must hope that he’ll come out ahead on this one after tough reviews on CBS Films’ Sundance pickup “The Words.”

The New Yorker’s well-read profile of the Wachowskis may prove to be good PR–or continue the jinx that dogs the subjects of recent profiles, from Andrew Stanton (“John Carter”) to Steve Carell and Anna Farris.

The poster for “Silver Linings Playbook” just debuted, and reveals — among other things — that “Hemingway LIED.”
