Toronto 2012: James Cromwell Drama 'Still' Grabbed by Samuel Goldwyn Films

Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired all U.S. rights to writer-director Michael McGowan’s “Still,” which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival Monday. The specialty distributor plans a 2013 release.

James Cromwell, Geneviève Bujold, Rick Roberts, Julie Stewart, Campbell Scott and Jonathan Potts star in the real-life-based story of an aging man trying to build a convenient house for his ailing wife only to have to overcome a stubborn swarm of local bureaucracy. McGowan also produced, along with Jody Colero, Tamara Deverell and Avi Federgreen; Richard Hanet is an executive producer.

“Michael has created an incredibly touching and triumphant film, and James Cromwell, afforded the role of a lifetime, delivers a truly remarkable performance,” said Samuel Goldwyn Films exec Peter Goldwyn.

Goldwyn exec Ian Puente negotiated the deal with Paradigm on behalf of the filmmakers.

Samuel Goldwyn Films has recently released “The Whistleblower” and “Robot & Frank.” Forthcoming releases include “Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel” and “Waiting for Lightning.”
