Catherine Corsini’s French-language drama “Three Worlds” will be distributed by Film Movement in the U.S. and Canada. The film had its world premiere at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival in Un Certain Regard and made its North American bow last night at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Here’s the synopsis:
Al, a young man from a modest background, is ten days away from marrying his boss’s daughter and succeeding him as the head of the car dealership where he has worked almost his entire life. While driving home drunk from his bachelor party, Al commits a hit-and-run and flees the scene at the behest of two childhood friends who are with him in the car. The next day, gnawed by guilt, he goes to the hospital to inquire anonymously about his victim. What Al does not know is that the entire accident was witnessed from a balcony by a young woman, Juliette, who is going through her own emotional upheavals. Juliette not only called 911, but also contacted the victim’s wife, Véra, a Moldavian illegal immigrant, whom she decides to help and accompany to the hospital. At the hospital, Juliette recognizes Al as the reckless driver, but her deep ambivalence renders her unable to denounce him. Gradually they get to know one another through frequent meetings and phone calls and Juliette becomes a mediator between Al and the unsuspecting Véra, however, things get complicated when romantic feelings between Juliette and Al arise and Véra discovers their secret relationship.
The acquisition was negotiated by Film Movement president Adley Gartenstein and VP of acquisitions and distribution Rebeca Conget and Lucero Garzon from Pyramide International.
