Watch: 'Paranormal Activity 4' Trailer Is Some Pretty Bad Advertising For Microsoft Kinect

Here’s the thing. As cheaply made and tossed off as these “Paranormal Activity” movies are, they make money. A lot of money. After the series took a slight dip with “Paranormal Activity 2,” it returned strong with “Paranormal Activity 3” which took over $200 million worldwide. Now, the directors of that massively successful third installment — “Catfish” helmers Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman — are back with “Paranormal Activity 4,” and it’s clear they’re not going to rock the boat too much.

A new trailer has dropped for the film, and the formula hasn’t changed much. Super low budget, no name cast, lots of things coming around corners and jump scares. Yawn. This time around, however, there are some creepy kids and something involving a Microsoft Kinetic in what looks like an ultimately pretty lazy riff on “Poltergeist.” This is basically the kind of movie where characters look things up on a website called Meanings Of Ancient Symbols — it isn’t going to overload the circuitry in your brain.

At this point, Paramount isn’t trying to get new recruits, they’re just trying to keep the current fans coming back for more. “Paranormal Activity 4” dials you up on Skype starting October 19th. Check out the trailer and some first look footage below.
