Watch: Trailer For Alcoholism Drama 'Smashed' Starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead & Aaron Paul

“Last night I ended up smoking crack.”  The Sundance drama “Smashed” starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and “Breaking Bad” star Aaron Paul received rave reviews earlier this year, especially for the performances of both lead actors. Our review from Sundance had praise for both thespians: “Winstead’s bright, light charm has helped her in a run of films, but here she gets to crack it open to show dark rot underneath. Paul may be best known as “Breaking Bad” co-star Jesse Pinkman, but while Charlie also likes his vices a bit too much, his performance — loving, gentle, lightly hammered — is in a very different key than his work there.”

Now the trailer and a new poster have arrived. Here’s the official synopis as well:

Kate and Charlie like to have a good time. Their marriage thrives on a shared fondness for music, laughter… and getting smashed. When Kate’s partying spirals into hard-core asocial behavior, compromising her job as an elementary schoolteacher, something’s got to give. But change isn’t exactly a cakewalk. Sobriety means she will have to confront the lies she’s been spinning at work, her troubling relationship with her mother, and the nature of her bond with Charlie.

Also of interest? The film’s score was also written by Eric D. Johnson of the Fruit Bats and Andy Cabic of Vetiver, and if the trailer is any indication, it’s a deeply affective score. Co-starring Octavia Spencer, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, and Mary Kay Place, “Smashed” is due in theaters October 12 and just recently screened at the Toronto International Film Festival.
