Hugh Grant Follows Up 'Cloud Atlas' Villains with Untitled Marc Lawrence Romantic Comedy

Hugh Grant will follow up his audacious multiple villains in “Cloud Atlas” with a return to the romantic comedy genre in writer/director Marc Lawrence’s new untitled romantic comedy. It will start shooting in New York in April 2013.

Martin Shafer will produce with Liz Glotzer for Castle Rock Entertainment. There is no distribution deal as yet. Grant has done well with Lawrence and Castle Rock Entertainment over the years: “Two Weeks Notice,” “Music and Lyrics,” “Did You Hear About the Morgans?” and “Miss Congeniality” 1 & 2.

In this Hollywood comedy, we see Ray Michaels (Grant) who back in 1998 was flying high as a successful, debonair and suave Englishman in Hollywood who had just won the Best Screenplay Oscar. But fifteen years later, he’s divorced, out of creative mojo and available cash. So he takes a gig teaching screenwriting at a small college on the East Coast. There his romantic options are more open.

Shafer, Glotzer and Castle Rock Entertainment recently produced Richard Linklater’s “Bernie” (Millennium Entertainment), “Friends with Benefits” (Screen Gems), and Whit Stillman’s “Damsels in Distress” (Sony Pictures Classics).  They  are executive producing Linklater’s upcoming “Before Midnight” which brings back Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy in the third installment of the “Before Sunrise” series.
