In the Works: Kruger & Yelchin '5 to 7,' Cruise Eyes 'Our Name Is Adam,' Lee Daniels May Direct Amy Adams as Janis Joplin

– Diane Kruger and Anton Yelchin are set to share in a romantic comedy titled “5 to 7,” from “Mad Men” writer and co-executive producer Victor Levin. It will be produced by Mockingbird Pictures and The Solution Entertainment Group, who will shop the film around at the upcoming American Film Market.

Yelchin will star as a New York novelist who has an affair with the wife of a French diplomat, played by Kruger. In the film, “cultures, world views, personal ethics and dietary preferences clash as love deepens, with remarkable results in this romantic comedy.” Production will kick off in late February.

Tom Cruise is reportedly attached to sci-fi spec script “Our Name Is Adam,” written by T.S. Nowlin and to be produced by Mary Parent, ex-Universal and MGM/UA exec who is now producing Guillermo del Toro’s “Pacific Rim.” Cruise and Parent previously worked together on UA’s “Valkyrie.” “Our Name Is Adam,” which has no released logline yet, joins a host of other Cruise-attached projects, including a remake of “The Magnificent Seven,” the soon-to-be-released “Jack Reacher” and two other sci-fi films, Universal’s “Oblivion” and Warner Bros.’ “All You Need Is Kill.”

– Following the recent release of his critically derided “The Paperboy,” Lee Daniels is reportedly in talks to direct the long-gestating Janis Joplin biopic “Get It While You Can,” with Amy Adams attached as the hard-living rock queen who died in 1970 from a heroin overdose. Both Fernando Meirelles and Catherine Hardwicke have been previously attached to helm, with Renee Zellweger at one point set to star as Joplin. The script is written by husband and wife team Ron Terry and Theresa Kounin-Terry.

This is not the only Joplin project in the works. “Martha Marcy May Marlene” director Sean Durkin is also directing “Janis,” with Broadway star Nina Arianda.
