In the Works: Theron's Viking Drama at ABC, Fogelman's Directorial Debut with Pacino, Renner & Moore

Screenwriter Dan Fogelman (“Crazy, Stupid, Love,” “Tangled”) is set to make his directorial debut with his script “Imagine.” Al Pacino, Jeremy Renner and Julianne Moore are talks to star. The familliar plot follows a rocker who finds a letter written to him by John Lennon that inspires him to change his life and find his unknown biological son.

In turnaround from Warner Bros., the film will be financed by Inimitable Pictures through a fund from 5 Hour Energy founder Manoj Bhargava. Production will kick off Spring 2013. Mister Smith Entertainment will be shopping international rights to the film at the American Film Market, while WME will handle the US.

Charlize Theron and her Denver & Delilah banner have sold their series “The Clan,” set in the Highlands of medieval Scotland, to ABC. That’s Theron’s third sale this season; she also has a “Hatfields & McCoys” modern-day spin-off and family drama “Holiday” at NBC. Theron will exec produce all three. She also has “Mind Hunter” in development at HBO with David Fincher.

“The Clan” centers on the great clans of Scotland battling each other and the invading Vikings. Terry George (“Hotel Rwanda”) will write, direct and exec produce. Sounds like “Braveheart” meets “Game of Thrones.” If only Theron would star in it. But she knows what she’s doing: Career Watch.
