Patton Oswalt Joins the New Season of 'Justified' As That Guy From High School

Looks like comedian, actor and pontificator on the nature of geek culture Patton Oswalt is headed to Harlan County, Kentucky.

TVLine reports that the “Nature Calls” star will have a recurring role in the new season of FX’s acclaimed crime drama “Justified.” He’ll play Bob Sweeney, a local constable with whom Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) went to high school. Raylan hires Bob to watch his father Arlo’s (Raymond J. Barry) house, and the promise of Oswalt being paired with the tough, sardonic Olyphant sounds like something to look forward to.

According to TVLine, “Bob has a single football tale he tells over and over from his high school glory days, Al Bundy-style, while a bid to help Raylan capture a bail jumper is humorous — and maybe even successful!”

“Guy the main character went to high school with” seems like the kind of role Oswalt is destined to end up in, and in Jason Reitman’s last film, “Young Adult,” it’s a role in which he found both depth and nuance.

“Justified” goes into production on its fourth season next week and will return to air in early 2013. Oswalt had a regular role on “The King of Queens” as Spencer Olchin, a friend of Kevin James’ character, and he has since booked several guest arcs on series, including “Caprica,” “United States of Tara,” “Bored to Death” and “Two and a Half Men.” Here’s a look at him voicing the “Moody Foodie” on “Bob’s Burgers”:
