'The Mindy Project' Gets a Full-Season Order From Fox

The Mindy Project,” the new comedy from “The Office” star Mindy Kaling, will live to see at least one season.

Fox announced today that the network is giving “The Mindy Project” a full-season order of nine additional episodes, which is good news to anyone who was as charmed by the potential of Kaling’s sitcom, which co-stars Chris Messina, Ed Weeks and Stephen Tobolowsky, as we were.

Fox has also ordered six more episodes of “Ben and Kate,” its vaguely “You Can Count On Me”-like Dana Fox-created comedy about a dreamer (Nat Faxon) who moves in with his very responsible younger sister (Dakota Johnson), a single mom, bringing it up to a full season as well.

“‘Ben and Kate’ and ‘The Mindy Project’ have everything we want to stand for in comedy: smart writing, hugely appealing casts and comedy that feels contemporary and real – which is why we’re confident they will continue to build on what is already an appointment comedy night for young, influential audiences on Tuesdays,” said Kevin Reilly, Fox’s Chairman of Entertainment.

Tomorrow night’s episode of “The Mindy Project,” the series’ third, finds the co-workers headed to a nightclub where Mindy (Kaling) meets a lawyer for the New York Knicks (Tommy Dewey),.
