Diablo Cody Sells Gen X Meets Millennial Comedy Script 'Alex + Amy' to ABC

“Juno” writer Diablo Cody, whose first foray into television “United States of Tara” ran for three seasons on Showtime, has a new small screen project in the works. Entertainment Weekly reports that Cody just sold a comedy pilot script to ABC.

The project is entitled “Alex + Amy,” and is about “a romance between an ambitious 22-year-old Millennial guy and a 32-year-old Gen X woman who have just moved in together and are very much in love.” A cross-generational May-December (or maybe that’s more May-September) love story! The potential series is being produced by Warner Bros. TV and Amblin, with Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank and Mason Novick serving as executive producers.

Cody’s Showtime series “United States of Tara” starred Toni Collette as a suburban housewife and mother with dissociative identity disorder. It was executive produced by Steven Spielberg and ran from 2009-2011. Cody wrote the screenplay for Jason Reitman’s 2011 “Young Adult” and is working on her yet-untitled film directorial debut about a young Evangelical woman (Julianne Hough) who abandons her religion after an airplace accident leaves her with severe burns. Sarah Colonna, Octavia Spencer, Holly Hunter and Russell Brand are also attached to appear in the film.
