Lionsgate has acquired North American and some foreign rights to J.T. Petty’s 3D horror comedy “Hellbenders,” which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. The company plans a theatrical release, though it has not yet made clear when.
UPDATE: Film Arcade is actually the U.S. theatrical distributor of “Hellbenders,” while Lionsgate Home Entertainmant acquired ancillary rights to the film for the U.S., Canada and India.
Clancy Brown, Clifton Collins Jr., Andre Royo, Robyn Rikoon, Macon Blair and Dan Folger star in the story of a Brooklyn-based group of ministers who live corrupted lives so that they’re prepared to escort any escaped demons back to Hell. The Hellbound Saints’ faith is tested when a terrible demon possesses one of its own.
A Circle of Confusion and OffHollywood Pictures production in association with Ambush Entertainment, “Hellbenders” was produced by Jon Denny, Lawrence Mattis, David Moscow, Mark Pederson and Aldey Sanchez.
Kevin Iwashina of Preferred Content repped the filmmakers in the deal. The Exchange is handling the remaining international rights at AFM, which kicked off in Santa Monica Thursday.
