HBO Will Air Louis C.K. 's Next Stand-Up Special

The mostly tireless Louis C.K., who recently announced he’d be taking a year-long hiatus from his critically acclaimed FX series “Louie” to recharge by doing tons of stand-up, will be airing his next comedy special on HBO.

The premium cable network announced today that it would be the home of C.K.’s next hour-long special, which will be directed by C.K. and filmed at one of the stops on his current sold-out 16-city tour, which started in October and wraps in February in Washington, D.C.

This is C.K.’s second stand-up special to land at HBO — his 2007 hour-long special “Louis C.K. Shameless,” his first, aired on the network, as did two half-hour specials, a 1997 episode of “HBO Comedy Half-Hour” and 2005’s “One Night Stand: Louis C.K.” C.K. also had his meta sitcom “Lucky Louie” on HBO, where it ran for one season in 2006.

Per HBO’s president of programming Michael Lombardo, “I’m delighted to welcome the gifted Louis CK back to HBO. This comic genius remains one of the freshest voices on the scene, and HBO is proud to provide an uncensored forum for his provocative humor.”

C.K.’s 2008 hour-long special “Chewed Up” aired on Showtime, while 2011’s “Hilarious,” which he produced independently, was sold to Epix and Comedy Central and premiered at Sundance. “Live at the Beacon Theater,” which was also released in 2011, was distributed by C.K. himself digitally via his website for $5, a model that proved very successful and inspired other comedians like Jim Gaffigan and Aziz Ansari to follow in his footsteps.

C.K. hosted “Saturday Night Live” for the first time on November 3rd. You can watcht the full episodes below, courtesy of Hulu:
