More genre fare from Monsieur Lance Reddick that should make many of you happy!
As announced back in March, Reddick formed a production company called Christai Productions, along with his manager Steven Adams, with the goal being to develop story-driven film and television projects with juicy lead characters that will attract talent, and are a little “outside the box” but with “a sharp eye to genre and budget.“
We featured the dark, futuristic web series DR0NE (which he starred in and co-produced under the Christai banner), earlier this year; and, coming up is a thriller titled St. Sebastian, which stars Reddick, alongside Bill Fichtner, and Constance Zimmer, and which was directed by Danny DeVito.
We can also now add a sci-fi/action project titled In War They Come, which Reddick’s Christai Productions has optioned the rights to.
Penned by Stuart Gallop, and budgeted at $5 million, the film tells the story of a US soldier and his battle-hardened staff sergeant (played by Reddick) who lead a squad on a covet mission into Vietnam to find a missing special forces unit, only to learn that an alien species may actually be responsible for their disappearance.
Reddick optioned Gallop’s script from UK-based Twinstar Productions, with partner Adams’ involvement, and it will be directed by Neil Corbould (a veteran special effects pro, who’s supervised a bunch of high profile studio projects like the upcoming World War Z, Zero Dark Thirty, Pirates Of The Caribbean, Clash Of The Titans and many more; he even won an Oscar for his special effects work in Gladiator).
In War They Come looks to be his feature film directorial debut; and, at the very least, the special effects in the film should be awesome!
“I was impressed by Twinstar’s resourcefulness and excited to present Lance with an opportunity to be a part of this project. Neil Corbould is an incredible talent who, with his A-team, will take the visuals to the next level,” said Steven Adams.
“As a sci-fi fan and writer, “Fringe” and “Lost” are two of my favorite programs. This project is tailor-made for Lance Reddick and his talent will bring a lot to this production,” added Gallop, who will co-produce the film with Reddick and Adams.
Casting is underway for the other lead role, and producers intend to raise starter funds for the film via Kickstarter in the coming weeks, with the goal being to start production in summer 2013.
When the Kickstarter campaign is launched, you’ll know.
