Production has started on John Turtletaub’s comedy “Last Vegas,” starring Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman and Kevin Kline as aging buddies who throw a Vegas bachelor party for the only one of them who has remained single. The script, from Dan Fogelman (“Crazy, Stupid, Love”) sounds a bit uninspired, like “The Hangover” for old men. Hopefully these fine veteran actors will infuse it with life.
Mary Steenbergen also stars. Laurence Mark and Amy Baer are producing, with a theatrical release set for December 20, 2013.
This is the first time that Oscar winners Douglas, De Niro, Freeman and Kline will appear together in the same film. With a combined international career box office haul of $16.6 billion, these elder statesmen are theoretically a solid business combination in the vein of “The Expendables,” “RED,” and the upcoming “Stand Up Guys,” all of which capitalize on the star power of aging audience favorites like Al Pacino, Christopher Walken, Helen Mirren, Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone.
