Musical Drama ‘Nashville’ Gets a Full Season Pick-Up From ABC

Musical Drama 'Nashville' Gets a Full Season Pick-Up From ABC

While “Nashville” has gotten a little sluggish in its storytelling since its promising, lively start, it’s still a solid show with a great leading turn by Connie Britton and dependably good musical numbers from composer and music producer T-Bone Burnett. So it’s welcome news that ABC has announced its picking up the drama for a full season.

The show, which was created by Callie Khouri and is executive produced by R.J. Cutler of “The September Issue” (he also directed the pilot), has been performing well in terms of ratings in the Adults 18-49 demo, and as you might expct is particularly strong in pulling in female audiences, with strong, complex women as its two lead characters.

ABC earlier gave full season orders to aliens-next-door comedy “The Neighbors” and to “Scandal” in a broadcast season that’s been shaken up by low ratings and audiences movings to DVR and streaming viewing, prompting many networks to hold on to shows that would have already been canceled in previous years.

In addition to Britton, “Nashville” stars Hayden Panettiere, Charles Esten, Eric Close, Clare Bowen and Powers Boothe.
