PBS Premiering Ken Burns's "The Dust Bowl" on November 18th as Part of a Night of "Extreme Weather" Programming

“The Dust Bowl,” the new documentary series from king of archival footage assemblage Ken Burns, will premiere on PBS on Sunday, November 18th as part of an extreme weather night the public broadcast station is planning in the wake of Hurrican Sandy. The evening will kick off with “Inside the Megastorm,” on original one-hour doc from “NOVA” about Sandy that will premiere at 7pm and will explore whether super-storms are becoming more frequent and more dangerous while providing a scientific context for Sandy and the destruction it caused.

Per Beth Hoppe, PBS’s VP of Programming, “PBS presents two documentaries that showcase how fragile and interconnected our relationship is to the environment and how powerful weather events continue to impact our lives from past through the present. It’s an informative and revealing night of television that viewers will not want to miss.”

“The Dust Bowl” will follow at 8pm, with the second half of this two-part, four-hour doc series airing on Monday, November 19th. Burns’ series is, as the title indicates, about the drought and dust storms of the 1930s that stands as one of the worst manmade ecological disasters in our country’s history and that prompted a mass migration out of the area.

PBS isn’t the only network to have hastily added a Hurricane Sandy doc to its schedule. The National Geographic Channel will be airing “Superstorm 2012,” a one-hour special about the storm produced by Pioneer Productions, on Thursday, November 15 at 10pm, while in the U.K., BBC Two will be airing “Sandy: Anatomy Of A Superstorm” from Dragonfly Film and Television on November 18.
