Rooftop Films and NYFVC will host a benefit for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts on November 14, transforming a simple night of StoryCorps animation into an evening of support for those who have been affected by the storm. NYFVC, Rooftop Films and StoryCorps/Rauch Brothers have absorbed all costs and labor for the event so that the proceeds can go directly to Occupy Sandy Relief.
The animation shown during this evening will combine genuine anecdotes of everyday people, shared in their own voices and chosen from StoryCorps’ archive of 40,000 audio interviews, with the Rauch Brothers’ animation. Although these stories are not directly linked to the hurricane, they should speak to the ways that everyone’s lives are inexplicably intertwined. A Q&A will follow with Mike Rauch and StoryCorps Producer Lizzie Jacobs, moderated by writer and animator Morgan Miller.
In addition to contributing all monetary proceeds to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, the fundraiser also hopes to collect items needed for those impacted by the hurricane (such as flashlights, AAA batteries, gallon ziplop bags, brooms and flat shovels, among others; no more clothing is needed). Since needs are changing constantly, Rooftop Films and NYFVC will send out a list of current needs on the morning of the event, November 14.
