The Bond Foreign Language Title Quiz

The Bond Foreign Language Title Quiz

In Israel, “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” became “Rain of Falafel.” “American Pie?” In Japan, it’s known as “American Virgin Man.” Hollywood films are often (and often hilariously) rebranded with new titles for foreign markets, and the James Bond franchise is no exception. Sometimes these foreign language titles are totally sensible — “Octopussy” became “Operation Octopus” in Italy, “Quantum of Solace” was sold as “A Grain of Comfort” in Croatia. Sometimes, they are not.

How well do you know James Bond, and also the frequently bizarre regional quirks of foreign language film retitling? We’re about to find out. Using each Bond film’s IMDb trivia page, I’ve assembled this little quiz featuring the foreign language titles of 15 Bond films. Your mission: guess which movie corresponds to which foreign title. You’ll find the correct answers at the bottom, or in the links embedded in each film’s title. If you get more than (00)7 correct, I’d say you’re right on target. Any less, and come come Mr. Bond, surely you can do better than that. Remember: death is not a game — that’s what the French called “The Living Daylights” — but this definitely is. Have fun and good luck.
