HBO is pairing the new season of “Enlightened” with “Girls” in the upcoming year, with the two female-led series returning Sunday, Jan. 13. Lena Dunham’s comedy will lead off at 9 pm, with Mike White’s following at 9:30.

It will have been more than a year off the air for “Enlightened,” which closed out its first ten-episode season in December 2011. While it was well-received by critics, the series, which stars Laura Dern as an executive who returns to work after a professional meltdown and philosophical awakening, will probably benefit from its new proximity to the buzzier “Girls.”
