Pull Quote: “A bona fide feel-good crowd-pleaser!”

Author: Rodrigo Perez, The Playlist

Original Quote, in ContextA bonafide feel-good crowd-pleaser, ‘Hyde Park on Hudson’ should strike a chord with lenient and undiscerning audiences, but with little substance or heft, the picture is a mildly pleasurable but a forgettable and toothless look at a little corner where history, politics and romance met.”

Why It’s WeirdBecause it’s a very selective quote; the only qualified nice words in a sentence teeming with derision. In context, the pull quote is actually kind of an insult — “If you’re lenient and undiscerning, you’ll love it!” — but you’d never know it from the ad. Also weird: whoever pulled the quote decided to add a space to “bonafide.” It’s a bona fide feel-good copy edit!
