Hollywood Pulls Back Premieres in Wake of Newtown, 'Django Unchained' Cancels

It happened after Columbine and Aurora and now Newtown is making Hollywood sensitive to celebrating. That is, in the week following the most horrific gun tragedy in America’s history, Fox, Paramount and Weinstein Co. have pulled back several movie premieres.

Fox took away the red carpet and after party for last Saturday’s premiere of comedy “Parental Guidance.” Paramount delayed its Saturday Pittsburgh premiere until Wednesday for ultra-violent Tom Cruise vehicle “Jack Reacher,” and opted to shut down its special Lincoln Center premiere as well. And Weinstein Co. cancelled its LA Tuesday gala for blood-spurting western “Django Unchained.” On the other hand, IFC’s relationship drama “On the Road” went ahead with Monday night’s premiere.

TWC will go ahead with a cast and crew screening. The TWC stated:

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the tragedy in Newtown, Conn., and in this time of national mourning we have decided to forgo our scheduled event.”
