‘Homeland’ Creator Gideon Raff Lands New Project ‘Tyrant’ at FX

'Homeland' Creator Gideon Raff Lands New Project 'Tyrant' at FX

Gideon Raff, creator of “Homeland” and the Israeli drama that inspired it, “Prisoners of War,” has landed a pilot for a new project called “Tyrant” at FX. According to Variety, FX snagged the project away from fellow bidders HBO and Showtime (the network on which “Homeland” airs) in a competitive situation.

“Tyrant” is executive produced by Raff and Howard Gordon, who developed “Homeland” for U.S. TV alongside Alex Gansa. The drama is about an American family caught up in turbulence in the Middle East. The Israeli Raff wrote the pilot, while playwright and “Dirty Sexy Money” creator Craig Wright is on board to executive produce the project and serve as showrunner if it’s ordered to series.

This is a huge get for FX, who have become a cable force to be reckoned with thanks to ratings juggernaut “Sons of Anarchy,” which just wrapped its fifth season, horror hit “American Horror Story” and cult comedy favorites “Louie” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” The network will premiere the vaguely “Homeland”-esque ’80s espionage drama “The Americans,” with Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell, on January 30th.
