Gravitas Ventures and Variance Films announced today that they have acquired all North American rights to writer-director Mark Webber’s drama THE END OF LOVE, which debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.  The father-son drama stars Webber alongside Shannyn Sossamon and Webber’s real-life son Isaac Love, and features appearances by Michael Cera, Jason Ritter, Amanda Seyfried, Aubrey Plaza, and Jocelin Donahue.

Gravitas Ventures will bow the 2012 Sundance Film Festival selection across all major video on demand (VOD) platforms on January 21st, with a theatrical release from Variance Films beginning March 1st in select markets.

“This is the type of work that makes it worth being in film distribution in the first place,” remarked Nolan Gallagher, Founder and CEO of Gravitas Ventures. “Propelled by the authenticity and intimacy of the performances, our acquisition team was unanimous that THE END OF LOVE was one of the strongest films not only of Sundance, but of all of the films we saw last year.”

“THE END OF LOVE floored me,” said Variance Films Founder and President Dylan Marchetti. “I can truthfully say I have never seen anything on screen like the interactions between Mark and Isaac.  It’s naturalistic and honest while serving the touching story at the same time.  I don’t know that there are very many filmmakers out there who can pull off what Mark has done here, and I think audiences are going to agree once they see the film.”

“I’m thrilled that THE END OF LOVE has found a home with Gravitas and Variance,” said writer-director Mark Webber. “In the rapidly changing landscape of how films are seen, these two companies are at the forefront of embracing that change. I have never felt so supported as a filmmaker… I feel like I’m putting my film out with a group of artists who honestly care about my film and will do so for years down the line.”

THE END OF LOVE tells the story of struggling actor Mark (played by writer/director Mark Webber), who is forced to grapple with his inability to grow up when the mother of his two-year-old son Isaac suddenly passes away.  As he kindles a relationship with a young single mother (Shannyn Sossamon, 40 Days and 40 Nights), he begins to realize that he can no longer remain in denial about the real-life consequences his choices have on Isaac (played by Isaac Love, Webber’s real-life son). The End of Love is an intimate and stunningly honest portrait of a young father in transition between the life he’s been working for and the one that’s waiting for him.

The deal was negotiated by Nolan Gallagher from Gravitas Ventures and Dylan Marchetti of Variance Films with Kevin Iwashina of Preferred Content on behalf of the filmmakers.
