Samuel L. Jackson Reteaming With ‘Snakes On A Plane’ Director David Ellis For Live-Action Anime ‘Kite’

Samuel L. Jackson Reteaming With 'Snakes On A Plane' Director David Ellis For Live-Action Anime 'Kite'

Hot on the heels of his colorful appearance on “Saturday Night Live” over the weekend, and the rumors that elements of Nick Fury’s solo-movie might have been folded into “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” comes word from the Anime News Network (via Movies.com) that Samuel L. Jackson has joined the cast of the English-language live-action remake of Yasuomi Umetsu’s 1998 anime film “Kite.”

While the original film centered on a schoolgirl orphan made sex slave and eventual assassin, the David R. Ellis-helmed remake will instead focus on “a young woman living in a failed state, post-financial collapse, where the corrupt security force profits on the trafficking of young women. When her father, a cop, is slain by someone dirty inside the force, she vows to track the murderer down with the help of her father’s ex-partner — never realizing he is, in fact, the man who had her father killed.” While the premise sounds interesting, we’re not that confident that Ellis, the man behind “Shark Night 3D,” will be able to deliver, but at least he’s drafted the help of his “Snakes on a Plane” leading man.

There’s no word on who exactly Jackson’s playing — the father? the corrupt cop? — but he does say he’ll definitely be shooting in Johannesburg next year for the film after finishing up his scenes in the “RoboCop” remake. What do you folks think? Is the original anime ripe for a remake? Let us know below.
