New Images Of Elisabeth Moss, Holly Hunter & More In Jane Campion's Miniseries 'Top Of The Lake'

One of the most interesting projects unspooling at the Sundance Film Festival isn’t an indie film, a foreign movie or a documentary — it’s a TV miniseries, from an acclaimed auteur. Jane Campion will be in Park City to present — in full, in one sitting — her seven-part, six-hour “Top Of The Lake.” And if you can’t be there, a handful of new images have arrived to give you a sneak peek at the show.

Mad Men” star Elisabeth Moss takes the lead role, in what should be a very different turn than playing Peggy Olson. She stars as detective Robin Griffin who investigates the disappearance of the 12-year-old, five-months-pregnant daughter of a local drug lord in remote, mountainous New Zealand. During the investigation, she collides with Matt Mitcham (Peter Mullan), the missing girl’s father and local drug lord, and GJ (Holly Hunter), a guru at a local women’s camp. The cast also features David Wenham, Lucy Lawless, Robyn Malcolm and Jay Ryan, with Garth Davis sharing directorial duties with Campion. Lawless plays the estranged wife of Bob, a real estate agent who crosses drug lord Matt Mitchum (Mullan), with Malcolm portraying a woman searching for spiritual answers from Hunter’s character. Meanwhile, Ryan will portray Mark Mitchum, presumably the son of Mullan’s drug lord. Needless to say, the film is set against a pretty big backdrop.

Thankfully, you won’t have to wait too long to see this yourself if you can’t make it to Utah. The Sundance Channel will air the series later this year. [IMDB]
