Picturehouse to Reopen With 'Metallica Through the Never'; Bob Berney Will Serve as CEO

Picturehouse, the indie film marketing and distribution company best known for releasing “Pan’s Labyrinth” and “La Vie En Rose,” is returning with its founder Bob Berney as the company’s CEO and Jeanne Berney as its President. They will be rebuilding the company independent of its former owner, Time Warner.

The company’s first new release with be “Metallica Through the Never,” a feature starring members of the band and “Lawless” breakout Dane DeHaan. Set for release of Aug. 9, the film stars DeHaan as a young band crew member who is sent out on an urgent mission while the band is playing a live set, only to see his world go haywire. The film was written and directed by “Predators” helmer Nimrod Antal.

“Nim and the band have made a film that really captures the spirit of Metallica and their millions of loyal fans,” said Mr. Berney in a statement. “It’s an entertaining genre film with a concert inside it.”

The company is aiming to release an additional two to three films this year, with plans to increase its output to four or five in 2014 and six or seven in years ahead.

Picturehouse has also signed an exclusive, multi-year output deal with Netflix, that will bring Picturehouse films to its online viewers shortly after theatrical release.
