Toni Collette Joins CBS Conspiracy Drama Pilot 'Hostages'

Well, just see our recent note on Geena Davis’ latest TV projectToni Collette, whose Diablo Cody-created Showtime drama “United States of Tara” ended last year, has a new small screen project on the horizon. According to Entertainment Weekly, the “Muriel’s Wedding” actress has taken the lead role in the new CBS drama project “Hostages,” a pilot for which was just ordered by CBS.

Collette will play a Washington, D.C. surgeon selected to operate on the president — she gets drawn into a political conspiracy when her husband and children are kidnapped and used as leverage against her. Jeffrey Nachmanoff (“Traitor”) wrote and will direct and produce the pilot, while Jerry Bruckheimer’s set to executive produce alongside Jonathan Littman, Omri Givon, Rotem Shamir and Chayim Sharir.

Like “Homeland” and other upcoming series, “Hostages” is based on an Israeli TV concept, though in this case it’s one that was never made into an Israeli show. According to Deadline, “Hostages” was originally developed for Israel’s Channel 10 Alon Aranya, Omri Givon and Rotem Shamir, but while the show was never produced there, Bruckheimer TV ended up buying the rights to a U.S. adaptation.

Collette recently played Peggy Robertson in “Hitchcock.”
