WikiLeaks Drama 'The Fifth Estate' Kicks off with Director Bill Condon and Benedict Cumberbatch

Production of “The Fifth Estate” has kicked off with director Bill Condon at the helm. The material is certainly heavier than Condon’s “Twilight” films, as it stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange and Daniel Brühl as Daniel Domscheit-Berg in the controversial story of Wikileaks’ early days, which culminated in the release of history-changing information.

Condon states:

“It may be decades before we understand the full impact of WikiLeaks and how it’s revolutionized the spread of information. So this film won’t claim any long view authority on its subject, or attempt any final judgment. We want to explore the complexities and challenges of transparency in the information age and, we hope, enliven and enrich the conversations WikiLeaks has already provoked.”

The film co-stars Laura Linney, Anthony Mackie, David Thewlis, Peter Capaldi, Dan Stevens, Alicia Vikander and Carice van Houten. It is set for US release November 15 through Disney’s Touchstone. DreamWorks and Participant are financing the film; their previous collaborations include “Lincoln,” “The Help,” “The Kite Runner” and “The Soloist.”
