Woody Allen's 'Blue Jasmine' Grabbed By Sony Pictures Classics

Sony Pictures Classics is staying in the Woody Allen game. The specialty distributor has acquired North American rights to its sixth Allen film, “Blue Jasmine,” which stars Alec Baldwin, Cate Blanchett, Bobby Cannavale, Louis C.K., Andrew Dice Clay, Sally Hawkins, Peter Sarsgaard and Michael Stuhlbarg.

Letty Aronson, Stephen Tenenbaum and Edward Walson produced the story of the final stages of an acute crisis and a life of a fashionable New York housewife.

SPC released Allen’s most recent four films — “To Rome With Love,” “Midnight in Paris,” “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger” and “Whatever Works”— plus “Sweet And Lowdown” from 1999. Most did not fare well at the box office, while “Midnight in Paris” was a huge success in 2011, grossing more than $56 million domestically.
