'Zero Dark Thirty' Leads Women Film Journalists' EDA Awards; Lawrence Recognized for Kicking Ass, Dench for Defying Ageism

The Alliance of Women and Film Journalists have voted on their EDA awards. “Zero Dark Thirty” swept Best Picture, Director (Kathryn Bigelow), Original Screenplay (Mark Boal) and Actress (Jessica Chastain). The EDAs also have a colorful list of “Special Mention Awards,” with categories ranging from “Actress Most in Need of a New Agent” to “Most Egregious Age Difference Between Leading Man and Love Interest.”

The EDA Awards recognize excellent work done by and about women in the film industry. The awards are named for founder Jennifer Merin’s mother, Eda Reiss Merin, a film, TV and stage actress whose career spanned more than 60 years.

This Year’s Outstanding Achievement By A Woman In The Film Industry

(Presented only when warranted to a female who has had a banner-making, record-breaking, industry-changing achievement during any given year — such as Kathryn Bigelow’s Best Director Oscar win, or for an actress having multiple outstanding films released during one year.)
