3:32pm: Collective sigh from the press in the press tent as the touted “Silver Linings” team show themselves, sans Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper or David O. Russell. Who does show? The film’s trio of producers.
3:30pm: The event’s officially wrapped but the “Silver Linings” team is still set to make an appearance backstage, so stay with us!
3:27pm: Best Actor winner John Hawkes asked backstage if his win makes him any less nervous about tomorrow’s Oscar ceremony, where… he isn’t nominated.
3:22pm: “Silver Linings Playbook” producers pay mention to “Beasts of the Southern Wild” when accepting the Best Film Award, acknowledging that they thought the indie would net the award and that it’s a “fantastic film.”
3:02pm: “Benn Zeitlin is a young man, so Benh Zeitlin will be back”: David O. Russell accepting the Best Director award. First upset of the show.
2:40pm: Helen Hunt backstage after winning the Best Supporting Actress award says she doesn’t expect to win the Oscar tomorrow. When asked what she was wearing she shot back, “I don’t know — I own it. Next question?”
2:22pm: Best International Film winner Michael Haneke: “I must be the oldest man in this room.” No kidding.
2:11pm: Fun fact from backstage: McConaughey saw only two films before he turned 18, “Orca” and “King Kong.”
2:10pm: “I had to drop my pants to get an award”: Matthew McConaughey accepeting his Best Supporting Actor award for his role as a stripper in “Magic Mike.”
2:05pm: Rumor is Connolly was seen getting escorted from the event by security.
1:59pm: Connolly seen back in his seat in the tent. Guess his publicist thought better and wisely advised him NOT to go backstage to talk to the press following his win.
1:54pm: After five minutes of rambling, Bryan Cranston got on stage to pour Connolly some (more?) whiskey, prompting the award’s presenter, Kerry Washington, to escort Connolly off the stage. Wow.
1:52pm: Is Connolly drunk? And why are they not cutting him off?!
1:49pm: From Sundance’s Waldo Screenwriting Award to netting the Best First Screenplay award at the Spirits, “Safety Not Guaranteed” writer Derek Connolly appears humbled and moved on stage, praising all those involved with the film.
1:47pm: Samberg pleads with the crowd to scream “Hollywood fuck you!” Cue the silence.
1:43pm: “I haven’t experienced such an honest and raw take on gay love since summer camp” Samberg on” Keep the Ligts On.”
1:41pm: Samberg awkwardly points out that the “Keep the Lights On” table is “as far from the stage as New York is from the Spirits,” despite it being nominated for Best Film.
1:38pm: Samberg makes another Michael Fassbender penis joke and reasons it’s still revelant because “Michael Fassbender’s penis is so long it extended itself into 2013.” Huge laughs.
1:35pm: Andy Samberg looks dandy on stage as the host of the event in a green tux and big black bow tie cracking jokes to a game audience. Big laughs for telling Anne Hathaway to “dial it back” in her acceptance speeches.
