‘Avengers’ Cast to Present at the Oscars

'Avengers' Cast to Present at the Oscars

Marvel isn’t missing a promo trick, nor is the ever-youth-audience-chasing Oscar telecast. “The Avengers” cast members Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo will present on-stage at the Oscars on February 24.

Show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron stated: “Audiences who enjoyed the year’s biggest box office hit will be excited to see these terrific actors back together again.”

The Oscar producers have nothing to worry about this year, as the Oscar race boasts a plethora of popular hits as well as the best movies in 90 years, according to Harvey Weinstein, speaking well of his competition for a change (perhaps realizing that the odds of winning best picture three years running are not in his favor). Global audiences are sure to bring the best ratings in years.

Nonetheless they are stacking the deck with Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers,” which broke opening weekend box-office records upon its release in early May of last year, grossing over $207 million upon its three-day opening, and led the year’s blockbusters with more than $623 million during its total domestic theatrical run.

The film’s cast have a history with the Oscars. Both Robert Downey Jr. and Jeremy Renner have been nominated twice (“Chaplin,” “Tropic Thunder” for Downey; “The Hurt Locker” and “The Town” for Renner), while Samuel L. Jackson and Mark Ruffalo each have one nomination (for “Pulp Fiction” and “The Kids Are All Right,” respectively).

No word yet on whether Scarlett Johansson or Chris Hemsworth will present with their castmates.
