Oscar worlds collide as Jennifer Lawrence reteams with “Silver Linings Playbook” director David O. Russell for “The Ends of the Earth,” a fact-based original penned by Oscar-nominated “Argo” screenwriter Chris Terrio. It’s an American epic–with a “Django”-scale TWC budget– centering on Ernest Marland, an oil tycoon who loses everything when caught in a scandalous affair (like General Petraeus?). The Weinstein Company has finalized worldwide rights to the film.
Todd Black, Steve Tisch and Jason Blumenthal of Escape Artists are set to produce.
Russell stated of his experience working with Lawrence on “Silver Linings”: “[She] possesses a self-deprecating humor that made all of the cast and crew feel at ease. Her acting is effortless and she always makes it look easy.”
Meanwhile, the actress is also on board for an untitled Russell project on the 1970s Abscam sting operation. “SLP” co-star Bradley Cooper is also attached, along with Jeremy Renner, Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Louis C.K.
Lawrence is nominated for her second Oscar for “Silver Linings Playbook” and is favired to win; Russell is nominated for his second and third Oscars for the film, adapted screenplay and director. The film is up for eight Academy Awards total, including Best Picture and all four actor categories.
