Elevator Pitch:

“Yabanci”, a multilingual comedy set in Istanbul, is the story of Mo, a young adult about to leave to study in America. Mo is already an expatriate living in a foreign land and on his last night in Turkey he comes to face what home and friendship mean to him. It is a bittersweet journey where he realizes what he has taken for granted, his best friend Mina, his life in a beautiful city, and his family. In the end he must break down his self constructed barriers and accept his home, despite the hardships that come with it.

Production Team:

Director: Mo Faramawy
Co-Director: Leo Gilbert
Assistant Director: Miki Benyamini
Producer: Ela Topcuoglu
Producer and Script Supervisor: Anita Gou
Director of Photography: Carolina Tamez
Assistant Camera: Max Kane
Sound Mixer and Designer: Adam Boese

About the Production:

“I have always been caught between cultures and different worlds. As an Egyptian, I left Cairo so long ago that I lost my association with the culture. As a Turkish resident, I am reminded that my time in Istanbul is limited. My current home is in New York, but I don’t consider myself to be American. As the film developed, it has become a portrait of the things we take for granted, the ridiculous arguments you have with your family, the inside jokes between friends and the idea of not taking advantage of an opportunity before it’s too late.” — Mo Faramawy
