Rupert Wyatt May Replace Nicolas Winding Refn On 'The Equalizer' With Denzel Washington

Jurassic Park IV” isn’t the only proposed 2014 movie currently without a director. Sony‘s “The Equalizer” has been developing for a good while now, with Denzel Washington slated to star, but it’s had a hard time keeping a director. Paul Haggis was once mooted with Russell Crowe in the lead, and then Nicolas Winding Refn came aboard late last year, only to exit the movie about a month later. But now, it may have landed a worthy replacement.

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes” helmer Rupert Wyatt is in early talks to take on the gig, though there are some caveats on place. If Sony still wants to make that April 11, 2014 date, scheduling could be an issue. Wyatt is slated to helm the AMC pilot “Turn” and recent weeks have seen “Birdsong,” his dream WWI project which he has been developing for years, build steam, nabbing Nicholas Hoult in the lead. And then there’s the issue of his contract with Fox, to whom he still owes one more picture  — he would basically have to negotiate this one-off deal, if he signs.

So chalk it all up to: maybe. There are a few hurdles to cross before Wyatt takes the helm of the adaptation of the 1980s TV show your Dad totally loves. But a Wyatt and Washington pairing would be a compelling one nonetheless, and we’re likely to hear soon if this all works out. [Deadline]
