Solve For X's New Website To Feature 'Cyborg Foundation' and Other GE Focus Forward Films

GE Focus Forward’s “Short Films, Big Ideas,” a series of 30 three-minute nonfiction films about the innovative efforts towards world change, will be featured as a part of the collaborative forum Solve for X‘s newly relaunched website. The initiative is also being supported by GE, strategic media company cinelan, TED, X Prize Foundation, Singularity University, MIT Technology Review, and Arizona State University for Science and Imagination, GE and cinelan announced today.

Solve for X is a forum aimed at amplifying technology-based moonshot thinking, or “the gray area between audacious projects and pure science fiction,” as their website describes.

Of the 30 GE Focus Forward films, a selection of 20 will be featured on Solve for X’s website, including this year’s GE Focus Foward’s Grand Jury Prize Winner Rafel Duran Torrent’s “Cyborg Foundation,” about Neil Harbisson, the first cyborg and his invention of the eyeborg, a device that translates colors into sounds; fifth place winner Callium Cooper’s “Mine Kafon”; Alex Gibney’s “Speaking With Light” about what bioluminescent sea creatures tell us about pollution; and Jeremiah Zagar’s “Heart Stopped Beating” that tells the achievement of two doctor’s replacement of a dying man’s heart with their own invented device. The full series has screened at numerous film festivals including Sundance, Dubai International Film Festival, LA Film Festival, Sheffield Doc Fest, and is being distributed across cable and satellite VOS, Internet Free On Demand services, as well as in theaters and on DVD.

On the partnership cinelan’s Co-Founder/Managing Partner Karol Martesko-Fenster said, “Many films in the GE Focus Forward series, like the Solve for X organization, focus on people who are finding counterintuitive technology solutions to the world’s problems. We are thrilled to join such a prestigious and like-minded community of speakers, thinkers, and innovators.”
