A 'Law & Order' Reunion: S. Epatha Merkerson Will Play Alberta Gay In Jesse L. Martin's 'Marvin Gaye' Film

How about that…

On the heels of last week’s announcement that Jesse L. Martin will star in Julien Temple’s Marvin Gaye project, Sexual Healing, comes news that Martin’ Law & Order co-star S. Epatha Merkerson, is set to play Marvin’s Gaye’s mother, Alberta Cooper Gay.

The film will be set in the early 1980s, and will focus on the making of the Midnight Love album, while Gaye was living in Belgium – a drug addict, considered something of a has-been at the time.

With Merkerson onboard, talk about a strong one-two acting punch, alongside Martin. I’d love to see these two on screen again – although on the big screen this time around.

Merkerson can currently be seen in a recurring role on NBC’s Deception (starring Meagan Good); she also co-stars in Tina Gordon Chism’s We The Peeples (aka Tyler Perry Presents Peeples), which will be out this spring.
