Casting Watch: Emma Watson In Talks for Disney's 'Cinderella,' Daniel Radcliffe Circling Fox's 'Frankenstein'

Emma Watson is reportedly in early talks to star in Disney’s live-action adaptation of “Cinderella,” with Kenneth Branagh set to helm. Cate Blanchett is already on board as Cinderella’s wicked stepmother.

Per Variety, Alicia Vikander (“A Royal Affair”), Imogen Poots (“Need for Speed”) and Gabriella Wilde (“The Three Musketeers”) were also in consideration for the eponymous lead.

Watson has been busy since the “Harry Potter” franchise concluded. In 2012 she toplined as one of three troubled teens in “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” while the 2013 pipeline holds Sofia Coppola’s “The Bling Ring.” The actress has also finished shooting Darren Aronoksky’s Old Testament epic “Noah,” Seth Rogen comedy “This is the End,” and is attached to depression drama “Your Voice in My Head,” adapted from Emma Forrest’s memoir.

Meanwhile, Watson’s HP co-star Daniel Radcliffe is in talks to play ghoulish assistant Igor in Fox’s “Frankenstein.” Radcliffe, who recently soft-shoed onstage at the Oscars, has been busy in various live productions — Broadway’s “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” and “Cripple of Inishmaan” in London’s West End. He also starred in 2013 Sundance entry “Kill Your Darlings” as young poet Allen Ginsberg.

While the fictional Igor isn’t part of Mary Shelley’s horror novel, the hunchbacked role has been a mainstay in various classic monster franchises in movie history. Below, watch the iconic Dwight Frye as Fritz, an iteration of the Igor stock character, in James Whale’s 1931 “Frankenstein”:
