Tambay profiled this new documentary by filmmaker Dawn Porter, Gideon’s Army, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival back in January HERE.
The film, which is scheduled to be broadcast on HBO sometime this year, centers on “public defenders working in the deep South and the man who brought them together to train, mentor and turn into lawyers”.
Porter, herself, had previously been a lawyer working for the ABC Network before turning her attention to filmmaking.
Now the film is scheduled to be screened at the Human Rights Watch Film Festival in Chicago – which will be held at the Gene Siskel Film Center on consecutive Mondays, from April 8 to May 6 – on Monday April 8 starting at 6:30PM.
Ms Porter, public defender Jeanne Bishop and Alba Morales of Human Rights Watch, will be present for an audience discussion after the movie.
