‘No’ is the Best Reviewed Indie Movie of the Year So Far

'No' is the Best Reviewed Indie Movie of the Year So Far

Over at Indiewire proper, Eric Kohn has used the grades and reviews submitted by critics to our Criticwire Network to assemble a list of “The Best Indie Movies of 2013 So Far.” And while “so far” in this case only means three months, it’s still a very interesting snapshot of the world of indie cinema circa late March of this year.

Here are 2013’s current top five reviewed indie movies — clicking any title will take you to the movie’s Criticwire Network page where you can read more grades and reviews from hundreds of critics:

The Best Reviewed Indie Movies of 2013 So Far

1) “No – A- (45 critics)
2) “Leviathan – A- (34 critics)
3) “The Gatekeepers – A- (31 critics)
4) “It’s a Disaster – A- (8 critics)
5) “Eden – A- (5 critics)

It’s an interesting mix: three fiction films, two documentaries; one work of historical fiction, one comedy, one dark drama set in the world of human trafficking. The list also includes two of last year’s Academy Awards nominees, so who knows if they even technically count as 2013 movies when all is said and done.
