Watch: Leonardo DiCaprio Loses His Cool in Two New 'Great Gatsby' Trailers

More of the glitz and drama of Baz Luhrmann’s much-anticipated “The Great Gatsby” has spilled across a small screen near you in two new TV spots. The 3D film, which opens the 66th Festival du Cannes on May 15 — twelve years after Luhrmann’s last period spectacular “Moulin Rouge” kicked off the fest — has its U.S. release on May 10.

The adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel about the declining morals of the roaring twenties has more ostentatious jazz than the novel itself, as is Luhrmann’s signature. The first official trailer that surfaced last year showed off this glimmering fun with flashy, confetti-filled shots of lavish flappers and infinite champagne-flowing, accompanied by Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “No Church In the Wild” track. While the latest trailers still show the fantastical parties of “Gatsby,” they reveal the darker tragedy of the film.

In one TV spot, the heated tension between DiCaprio’s Gatsby and Joel Edgerton’s Tom Buchanan erupts over his affair with Carey Mulligan’s Daisy Buchanan to Jack White’s power-driven U2 cover of “Love Is Blindness.” Here we see a broken Gatsby, sweat-drenched and screaming with a clenched fist as the chaos unravels and the gunshots ring out. Just clips of DiCaprio’s suave-turned-enraged Gatsby lead us to hope the film will break his Oscar bad luck and give the guy the gold statue he’s long deserved.
