BOOK LOOK: The Great Lollipop Caper by Dan Krall

Artists, designers and animators have to be just as creative in finding new outlets for their talents as they are in their chosen work. That’s why I like to put the spotlight on creators who find other ways, beyond the studio jobs, to express themselves and share their craft.

Dan Krall was a character designer on Coraline and How To Train Your Dragon, an art director for Chowder and Samurai Jack and did much development art on Powerpuff Girls and Dexters Lab. He’s also illustrated several quirky and clever children’s books in his time between jobs. His latest, coming out on May 7th, is really really sweet – and a little sour – intentionally!

The Great Lollipop Caper is perfect bedtime reading for parents – and perfect fun for kids to read by themselves. It’s about a popular lollipop and a cruel plan by an evil caper. This animated trailer (below, animated in stop-motion by our friends at Screen Novelties) teases the tale perfectly. If you have little kids – or are one yourself – or you just love the work of Dan Krall, The Great Lollipop Caper is highly recommended.
