Bullwinkle and Mr. Peabody Return to Comics in Advance of Dreamworks Films

Bullwinkle and Mr. Peabody Return to Comics in Advance of Dreamworks Films

In advance of DreamWorks Animation’s 3D Mr. Peabody & Sherman CGI feature (scheduled for release on March 7th, 2014), comics publisher IDW Publishing will release a new comic book starring the time traveling duo.

IDW is also planning a brand-new Rocky & Bullwinkle comic for early 2014 release. IDW, along with DreamWorks Classics and Bullwinkle Studios, have teamed up to bring Jay Ward’s classic characters and stories back to comics. Boris & Natasha, Snidely Whiplash, Dudley Do-Right and many more will appear in the new books as part of a complete relaunch of the Jay Ward brand.

There are also plans to reprint of the wealth of previously published Jay Ward comics previously published by Western (Dell/Gold Key), Charlton and Marvel. Rocky and His Friends first appeared in comic books in Dell’s Four Color #1128 in 1960. Charlton published a run of Bullwinkle comics in 1970-71; Marvel (through its Star Comics line) printed Bullwinkle and Rocky from 1987 through 1989.

An outstanding Rocky and Bullwinkle comic strip (see sample below) by Al Kilgore, created for the Bell-McClure Syndicate between 1962 and 1965, is desperately in need of collecting and reprinting.
