With the first season of “Da Vinci’s Demons” just underway, a second season of the historical fantasy about a young Leonardo Da Vinci has already been ordered.
Starz announced today that the show, now in the midst of an eight-episode first season, will return for a sophomore year following the record-breaking premiere of its first weekend on air last week.
The series, which stars Tom Riley as the Renaissance era polymath, had more than 2.14 million total viewers tuning in.
Season two of the Starz original series will begin production next month and will air next year. David S. Goyer, the show’s creator, wrote “Batman Begins,” “Blade” and the upcoming “Man of Steel,” among others. He told Indiewire that he has a larger plan in mind for the drama: “Before Starz greenlit the show, I had to prove to them that it could last at least five seasons and had to pitch them an overall arc. I absolutely know how the show ends. There are actually some Easter eggs hidden in the first scene in the first episode that will hint to how the whole show ends.”
