The latest fashion documentary, “The Director,” takes us behind the scenes of not just the world renowned Italian brand Gucci, but of the powerful woman behind it. Produced by busy man James Franco — who was the face of Gucci a few years back — and directed by Christina Voros (“Kink”), the film makes its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival Thursday, April 18th.
In the film’s new trailer Frida Giannini, the quiet yet decisive creative director of the House of Gucci, says she never thought she would become the driving force behind the fashion label. Beginning in the women’s accessories department in 2004, Giannini moved up to the position that would usher Gucci into a new era. “The Director” gives an intimate glimpse into how the brand’s models, designs, and shows stem from Giannini’s vision to return to Gucci’s Florentine roots. “The seduction and the sensuality is always an important starting point for me in the collection,” Giannini softly says in the trailer.
But Franco fans have no fear, the machine of an actor-director-writer-producer-everything appears in the trailer as he tries on a Gucci suit and poses for an ad campaign.
